WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Butterworth, CJark, Reid, and Strode.
Mr Paul Frederic applied to purchase 15 acre, adjoining the quarry reserve, block I, ,E Harbor and Blueakin. To be put up by auction at an upset price of Ll per acre Survey to be made at applisant’s expense. The District Land Ofllcer reported on the application of Mr Thomas Murray for a license to occupy section 44, blocks, Table Hill, under clause 169, recommending that the land should be sold, and adding that it was a very picturesque spot. Mr Connell, for Mr Andrew Miller (who had often applied for the same), opposed the granting it to applicant.—The Chief Commissioner said the ground would make an excellent tea-garden for the inhabitants of Tokomairiro. It was decided that it be put up by auction, at Ll Is per acre. .
ganger Valpy reported on the illegal occupation of Crown lands at Macraes by Mr Conaldson, stating that the latter had fenced in a waterfall. The report was received.
A map of the Hyde township was approved, and the upset price of, the sections fixed at L 5 for main sections ; L 3 for back sections.
Sir P. D. Bell requested the Board to inform him if they will now settle the selection of pre-emptive rights over runs 80 and 109 outside the Shag Valley block, and receive applications for the same. To be requested to send in his application. ~ Tb ® Town Clerk of Queenstown asked if the Mayor (vJrT. 6 Betts) should be placed in control of the islands in Lake Wakatipu until the grants to the Corporation are fixed. Se?liJ’« ? mmended that Mr Jmbculiy s application for protection for a sleigh road to his wood-cutting claim on L<!ke Ranger Innis recommended that the timber on one of the islands in Lake Wakatipu be preserved. ihjTo be informed that the islands fiave been given over to the Mayor of Queenstown.
Ranger Innis recommended that a reasonablesum be charged Messrs Fitzpatrick and Co. lor permission to cut timber on their gold
mining claim, 25-mile Creek, Lake Wakatipu. He thought a cha ge should be made in such cases in order to save the wasteful destruction of timber. It was decided that if the a wished to sell anyof .the wood they must take out the usual license. _ Ranger Hughaa reported on the applicanon of Mr F. Lange for a license to occupy two acres at Clinton, for a slaughter-yard, stating that he coul l hear of no objection to the reque t being granted. Approved, at L2 per anuum. - H - Cummings and others wrote ob< jectmg to the notice of application by Messrs a j d x 5* • am P bell an extension (192 yards) of their water race and mining claim at Waitahuna, on the ground that there was a known lead of gold running through the land. Read; objectors to be informed that no such application had yet been made. J The Nasoby Di trict Land Officer transmitted an application by Mr J. Packman to purchase a small piece of land adjoining hj e freehold at Naaeby, an i reoommeuded that it be granted. The land has a frontage of 10ft, and is part of a reserve for purposes of public utility. The Chief report to be obtained on the question. Mr J. B. Bradshaw was appointed arbitrator to act on behalf of the Board in determining the compensation to be paid the lessee of runs 186 and 260 for the declaration of the Lees Stream Hundred. Mr James Pollock naked the Board to dispense with the survey of his sawmill lease at y? d “ a “ for the present. Applicant to pay his full license fees, wh«Jh W request will be complied with. Tho following applications to purchase lands within goldfields were dealt with • Mr Joseph Treloar, section 22, block 1, TuapekaEast (approved); and section 2, block 69. da (refused); Mr S. Whitesides, section 48, block 19, do. (refused); and Mr Thomas Hmde, section 49, block 19, do. (refused). The Board decided to reserve block 19 from sale till the survey is made.
