WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day ; present—the Chief Commissioner, Messrs Butterworth, Clark, Reid, and Strode.
The District Land Officer transmitted a request from Mr G. B. Barton, solicitor to Messrs Malaghan and Bridge, trustees in the estate of Richard Howell, that they should be allowed to execute his lease, granted under clause 62 of the Act of 1872. Referred to tjpe Provincial Solicitor. Mr R D. Creagh applied to purchase sections 8. block 4, Waitahuna East, held under agricultural lease* Approved. Mr E, R Auderaen applied to purchase section 3q, block 1, Mount Benger, held under agricultural lease. Approved. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr James Logan applied for a license to occupy section 10, block 2, Waipahee, marked “Quarry reserve. It was thought that granting the request would interfere with the free working of the quarry. The application was declined.

Mr A. Holmes wrote asking the Board to appoint an arbitrator to act in determining the oompensa ion to be paid to the lessees of runs 185 and 260 for the declaration of the week. • rewa Hundred. Postponed for a
Mr Walter Miller wrote requesting the Board to notify the day on whiohfc decison will be giveaon his application to purchase 400 acres m Waitehnna East, and that steps be taken to have a survey made. A date could not be fixed until the survey comes in. Mr William Evans applied to purchase 187 and 189, 178 a, and 178b. block 2. S peka East, held under agricultural lease. Approved.
Mr J. Cargill applied to purchase sec. 86, block i, Banger, hold under agricultural lease. Approved. The District Land Officer reported on the improvements made by Mr Marie at his coal pit at Clyde. Mr Gillies, whoappeared for Mr Marie, said that the Hoad hngineer Officer had not allowed valuation on anything that should have been valued. To b« put up to auction on valuation of Messrs Chappie and Poole (L 322 3s 6d), as per former terms. Mr Fraser applied regarding pre-emptive rights on large reserves, and was informed that new notices would be forwarded to runholders within large reserves nnder clauses 103 a and 10 -?b who have not exercised their rights already. a OOll he had just arrived from the Stuff, and, being unaware of the rule that all business for the Board to deal with must be entered the day previous, he was tl are to make reference to a recent application of his for some eleven acres of land in block 11 Moeraki, a quarry reserve. PermisSion having been given, Mr Calcutt said be had seen by the papers that the land officer’s report stated that the stone thereon was of no use, and yet that the Board had decided that it could not be had at less than L2 2s per acre. He demurroito that decuion : his only object in obtaining the land was te save a large extent of fencing, and he thought it a moustrong thing that snob a price should be charged for land which wai simply a maps of conglomerated stone. The <. hief Commie sioner: As you want the price reduced to oblige yourself, I say it should not he done. Mr Calcntt; But I say The Chief Commissioner ; Allow the Board to proceed with its business, or the room must be cleared. Isty it should not be dope, but I will have the opinion of the Board. Mr Calcutt: L must speak and will speak. V on are granting better land at Ll per acre and yet you want L2 2s for this. I'm not going to be overriden.
