, , Westport, September 28, mere has been incessant heavy rains for hours and the fall is still continuing, ihe lower portion of the town is flooded. The nver is rising rapidly, but there has been no damage yet.
. September 29. The nver rose rapidly at 4.30 a.m., but little damage was done compared with former floods, ihe encroachments were at the comer of Molesworth street. The old ‘Times’office, Jb alia s, and some cottages are now being pulled down. The stone groin at Nelson street saved the lower part of the township. The Drawaiti river is flooded. News reached here last night from the Lyell of a flood there.
. Greymouth, September 29. A gale of wind was blowing last night The s.s. VVaipara is high and dry, and will require launching a distance of 400 yards. The river has flooded, the protective works preventing any further damage to Greymouth. There are serious encroachments at Cobden. The Grev is running immediately behind the houses in the mam street, and several buildings are in course of removal. 6
