THE OCEAN BEACH RIFLE RANGE.
To the Editor. Sir,—l can endorse the'remarks of your correspondent ** C. R. C.” in your issue of Saturday, as I was like him very nearly being made a fit subject for a coroner’s inquest, through the recklessness of a party of shootists at the Anderson’s Bay butts on Good Friday last. On the afternoon of that day I was, a l ong with a friend, enjoying a quiet walk on the beach, when we were suddenly brought to a standstill by hearing the very unpleasant whizz of a bullet passing within a foot or two of our heads. ft likewise sta< tied two young men who were sitting on a bank close to the spot where wo stopped. L therefore think that, looking at the largo increase to our population, and consequently of the probable number who will visit the beach on holidays and Saturday afternoons, the authorities should either provide the Volunteers with another range, or else prohibit them from shooting there at all except at an early hour in the morning, when there is nobody about, Trusting that something will be done in the matter—l am, &c., Escapee. Dunedin, September 7.
