WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day ; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Butter worth, Clarke, and Strode. Mr Gillies, for Mr Thomas Smith, applied to lease teu acres of the bush reserve, Cookston, in consideration of his forming a roa l and tramway. Referred to the Ranger for report. Mr Gillies, for Mr Marie, applied to have the sale of section 117. block 2, Leaning Rock, p >stponed until a competent party be appointed to value applicant's improvements, tae latter complaining that the recent valuators were quite incompetent to act. It was decided to request the Government to appoint a ro id engineer to value the im provements, the sale in the meantime to be deferred. The Chief Surveyor reported against the granting of Mr A. Cassell’s application for a lease of run 460, being 3,000 acres of land west of Waian River. Refused. The District Land Officer reported in favor of Mr George Matheson’s application to purchase section 29, block 6, Tuapeka Last, provided it does not extend into German Gully. Granted, on that condition. Mr Henderson’s application for section 61, block 3, Tuapeka East, was refused, until the Banger’s report is received. Mr Andrew Jones applied for a license under clause 161, to occupy a piece of land between the lagoon and sections 1 and 11 block 23, and sections 1 and 17, block 25 Hawkesbury-—about throe-quarters of an acre. Refused. Messrs Driver, Stewart, and Co., for Messrs M‘Donald and Matheson, asked whv payment had been refused for section 39, block 18 t luapeka East. The former decision of the Board was reversed, the application being now refused. M. Dawkins, for Mr G. Cockburn, of Bannockburn, applied for a coal-mining license, under clause 161, of five acres at Adam’s Gully, en run 345. Granted. 1 be refusal of Mr Rossbotham’s applications for sections in block 1, Beaumont, was confirmed. Mr John Carter applied for a license, under clause 161, to occupy a piece of land between the lagoon and sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, block 28, Hawksbury. ' Valuation of improvements made on sectians 1 and 64, block 3, Tuapeka East, was approved. Mr George Leslie applied to purchase section 9, block 10, Waitahuna East, Approved. v A letter complaining of the illegal occupation of Crown lands at Macraes was read and forwarded to the Banger. The application of Mr neo. Matheson to purchase land on a goldfield, being section 29, block 3, luapeka Bast, was approved. The following applications to purchase lauds on goldfields were refusedMr R. Lancaster, sections 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, and 23*. block 1, Beaumont, and 6 and 7, block 2 do ; Mias Rose Gunn, sections 17, 19, 2 ’ • ln d 21, block 5, luapeka West j Mr James Keppel, section 58, block 6, do ; and Mr J. Fitzgerald, section 59, do, do. Mr Gillies, for Mr James Hassell, applied under clause 161, to occupy sections 17 and 22, block 53, Oamaru. Granted, at LI per aunum. A letter from the District Land Officer was read, adverting to the danger of the bush being destroyed by fire, if the run on Dingle River is leased. The Board decided to ask the Superintendent to reserve all those reserves that have been abandoned under clause 35 of the 1872 Act. The following applications to exchange leases, under clause 62, were approved Mr Jolm Browu, section 73, block 1, Wai-
fahuna West; Mr R. M‘Cracken, sections 8, 14, 11, 12, 80, 15, 39, ard 87, block 7, It was decided that in future all business !o come before the Board must be entered in the minute-book before 4 pm. on the previous Tuesday, otherwise it will not come before the Board till the ensuing week.
