PROSPECTUS. PROSPECTUS Ojr thb SOUTHERN HOTEL COMPANY. LIMITED. Captal—£4o,ooo, in 40,006 Shares of £1 each, Of which it is proposed to call up 10s per Share as follows: Two Shillings and Sixpence on application ; Two Shillings and Sixpence on allotment j Two Shillings and Sixpence six months after allotment; and Two Shillings and Sixpence nine months after allotment. Provisional Directors. E. B. Cargill, Esq. D. P. Main, Esq, Thomas M. Wilkinson, Esq. William Kennedy, sq. Basil Sievwright. Esq. G. W. Eliott, Esq. H. North, Esq. T. S. Graham, Esq. William Park, Esq. Carl .'-teinhoff. Esq. J. F. Jones, Esq, J. C. Matheson, Esq. Solicitors : Messrs Sievwright and Stent. Bankers: The Colonial Bank of New Zealand. Interim Secretary ; Mr Richard H. Leary. It will readily be conceded that one of the greatest wants in the principal cities of New Zealand is first-class hotel accommodation, to provide which will involve a large expenditure, beyond the limits of individual capital. This Company is formed for the purpose of erecting in Dunedin a first-class Hotel, similar in character to those existing in the large cities of Europe and America—one which will not only supply existing requirements but wil! offer special attractions and inducements to tourists and travellers to visit this part of New Zealand. It is proposed that the building to be erected shall contain 200 Bedrooms, spacious Dining and Drawing Rooms, Library, Private Rooms for families, and all the necessary adjuncts of a really first-class Hotel of the kmd indicated. An unexceptionable freehold site has already been secured at moderate cost. It is estimated that the cost of freehold land and buildings will not exceed L 29.000, and the furniture and fittings L 6.000, thus making the total outlay required about L 35.000. To meet this cost, a paid-up capital of L2G.000 will be sufficient, as the balance can readily be borrowed at a moderate rate of interest on the security of the Land and Buildings. The profits realised by the leading betels in London, Paris, Berlin, St. Petersburg, and America, average 22 per cent, upon the amount of invested capital.. From reliable information obtained from competent persons, the promoters of the Southern Hotel Company (Limited) are fully persuaded that, under careful management, the profils from this enterprise will provide a very handsome return for the capital subscribed. Exclusive of revenue derived from the hotel business proper, it is estimated that a considerable income will be received in the way of rent for the principal portion of the ground floor, which would be readily let for Shops, &c., and would not be required for hotel purposes. promoters feel that it is almost superfluous to impress upon the citizens of Dunedm the great advantages which would accrue to their city from the successful development of such an enterprise as the one projected. The increase in the number of visitors to Dunedin would inevitably be accompanied by an increase in the vitality pf every department of commerce and trade, and would thereby materially augment the prosperity of all classes of the community
