PELICHET BAY BATHS.
To the Editor. Siß,—“ Sanitary Reform” and “Penguin,” in calling attention to the manner in wh ch the above baths have been neglected, deserve the gratitude of bathers. I could mak<suggestions as to many things that might easily be dope for promoting the comfort of bathers, but our Councillors can find out for themselves how utterly discreditable to Dunedin, and how little worthy of the name are our “ pub'ip baths.” It seem to me that the dirty, dilapidated, and dangerous con dition of the baths is entirely attributable to the City Council; for these sagacious individuals, the members thereof, regard the baths more from a pounds, shillings, and pence view than from sanitary considerstionjj. If the City Council will persiai in letting the baths by tender, what else can it expect from the successful tenderer than an indifference to the comfort of bathers, so long as he get his money. This, at any rate, seemed to be the views of the person who had charge of the baths last reason! lam passionately fond of a “dip,” but if during the coming season I shall find it necessary to undress in a filthily-kept bath-room, and to Vfalk through pools of saliva and other abomfnations before reaching the water, I will dpcidedly prefer to deny myself the comfortable, healthy, anff invigorating use pf a salt water bath altogether.- l am, &c,, Ecto.
