WELLINGTON.
[By Electric Telegraph ] (From our own Correspondent. ) lit | • • , Augßßb 16. Ail kinds of rumors are flying aboqt concerning the combination and dispositions qf parties, but they are mostly canards. One vras circulating early to-day that the Centralists made a condition of their supporting. the resolutions, that Mr Reynolds should retire from the Ministry. This is utterly without foundation. Mr Beynolds will support the resolutions, and there is nothing in ms former acts or speeches to warrant his taking an opposite course—while claiming to be a rrovmcialist he maintains that the proW* plac ® on a firm footing the compact of i 1856 should remove any objection on the part of the Middle Island members. The only question being discussed is the probable extent of the Government majqritw. The M mist-rial whips tick the cards off thus hor: Messrs Andrew, Atkinson,Bluett, Bradshaw, Brown J. E.; Bryce, Buckland, Oariington, Creighton, Cuthbertson, Pox, Gibbs. Hamson, Ingles, Jackson, Katsne, Kelly. T. KeHy, W Jenny, Luckie, M‘6illivray, M Giashan, M Lean, Mervyn, Munro, O’Connor , OWl.Ormond, Parker, Parata, G. ii. Parker, Reynolds, Kichardson, R'chmond, Seymour, Shephard, T. L. Shepherd. Stafford, Steward, Studholme, Taiaroa, Tolmie, Tribe, y o gel, Wales, Webb, Wilhams, Wilson, and Wood. Noes—Messrs J. 0. Brown. Brandon, Bunny, Curtis, Pitsberbert, Gillies J. L., Gillies T. 8., Hunter Johnston, Macandrew, May, Murray’ O Rorke, Pearce, Reeves, Reid, Rolleston, Sheehan Swanson, Takamoana, Thomson Wakefield, White, and Williamson. The Ministerialists put down Messrs Wales and VonJderiHeyde as doubtful ; the Opposition credit the latter with being an opponent. Mr Montgomery, it is believed, will support the resolutions. The Opposition claim Messrs a arnson, Shephard, and Taiaroa. I think the division list will show a majority of twelve or fourteen for the Government. Mr Reeves moves the previous question, and if defeated on that, as they are‘sure to be, one ot the Opposition members will move an amendment to the effect that the proposal of Island 6 ™ 1 * 1611 * 8bo “ ld extendto the Middle o. .. . August 17oix witnesses for the Ward'ChspmanV inquiry arrived on Saturday. The Committee believes it is now in a fair way to unravel the tangled skein. Rumor says a lady realdent at Oamaru has a son who communicated the matter to his mother, and the latter repeated what he told her until it ultimately found its way into the ‘ Otago Daily Times ’ office, through medium of Mr Brown, the latter’s correspondent at Oamaru. Judge Ward asserts his ability to prove that an otter of LSO was made to the boy to give the actual telegrams. Mrs Clayton and Mr Macassey are being examined by the Committee this morning.
