Mercer reports for the week ending August 7: —Retail prices only: Fresh butter still continues to be scarce, .and butter anything passable 2s per lb ; salt butter is in good demand at Is 6d to Is 8d per lb. Best cheese, lOd to Is per lb, and nothing but goed quality will sell. Side and rolled bacon, lOd to Is. Beef ham, 7d to 8d ; boiled beef ham, 9d; colored hams, Is to Is 2d per lb; English hams, la 4d to Is 6d, but very unsaleable. Eggs are very plentiful, and retailing at Is 9d per dozen.
