The election of members for the City Council in the room of Messrs thirty Woodland, and Gibson, who, through effluxion of time, retire from the seats held by them in ~fs“, Bell, and i cith Wards, took place today. Two Councillors are to be elected for each ward, owing to the increased representation. ihe election was, perhaps, the quietest of its kind that has taken place for many years, owing to the various candidates having decided to dispense, as much as convenient, with the usual placarded vehicles and touts, and leave the whole matter in the hands of the citizens. But very little excitement was manifested till shortly before four o clock ; but, from the hour of closing r! e tho declaration was made by the Town Clerk, the interest considerably ripened. The various polling-booths, however, during the course of the day indicated that something possessing more than average importance was going on. Two auditors were to be elected for the whole City, The following is the state of the poll
