Hokitika, July 24. There is a new rush at Greenstone, between Hokitika and the Grey. It is turning out most satisfactorily, and prospects are improving daily. Already sixteen havp struck payable gold, and pthera being driven back* the country being taken up, and extensive goldfields are expected to be opened. Miners are flocking in from all parts of the Coast. Wellington, July 24. In to-day’s ‘Gazette’the Otago Gold i'uty Repayment Ordinance, 1874, is disallowed ; the Lock-up at Arrow town is declared a public prison ; the Naseby Waterworks Empowering Ordinance, 1874, and the Appropriation Ordinance, 1874-75, are left to their operation ; and the Oamaru Harbor Board Ordinance is assented to. In the action Macfarlane v, Harris the jury cannot agree. They are now locked up. Mr Rees has retired from the candidature for Waitemata in favor of Mr Yon der Heyde. July 25. Information received from Taranaki this morning states that as the cargo is got out of the Paterson she floats, and this shows that the damage done is a great deal less than was anticipated. It is expected she will be floated off without difficulty. Gbahamstown, July 24. Gold has been struck in the Exchange Company’s ground on Grahamstown Flat, and the Waitemata Company have struck a new reef, which is generally believed to be the Manukau, Gold is visible. Attention is being directed to other claims by this discovery of the rich Manukau reefs. Auckland, July 25. The jury in the case of Macfarlane v. Harris was discharged without ageeeing. It is understood eight were for a verdict for the defendant on all the material issues ; and four for a verdict for Macfarlane, with nominal damages. The owner of the Lady Bowen prefers claim for L 12,000 salvage against the Miltiades.
