Absent without Leave. —Robert May was charged by Captain White, of the ship Hindostan, with being absent from his ship on the 18th without leave. Prisoner pleaded nit guilty. Mr Mansford appeared for the prosecution. After evidence was taken in the case, May was sent to gaol for seven days. Stealing from the Ship.— Christopher Marlow was charged, on the information of (George M'KenEte, purser of the ship Hindostan, with having feloniously stolen 6lbs of coffee and a scraper, the property of the ship, on the 18th instant. —Prisoner pleaded not guilty - George M'Kenaie said he was purser of the ship. On Saturday he had prisoner down at the store-room, cleaning up and putting things in order, and had left a tin containing about 61bs of coffee in a berth not far from the store room, while he was called ashore to attend the Court. On coming back, the coffee was gone, and as Marlow was the only man w ho had been down, he asked him if he had moved it. Prisoner replied that hj i had tak n it, but would not tell whore it was. Witness subsequently gave pri-ouer in charge.—' unstable JSickle said he asked prisoner where the coffee was, and was told in his bag, in the railway truck. Witness took out the bag, and found in it the coffee and a scraper.—The Bench ordered prisoner to be placed in prison for seven days, with hard labor.
