THE LABOR MARKET.

Mr Skene reports that the supply in the labor market is certainly beyond the demand this week, caused by so many ships arriving at one time. Ploughmen, farm servants, shepherds, gardeners, tradesmen, &c., female servants, and handy people of all kinds are wanted. Engagements have been made this week at the following rates:—Ploughmen, L6O and L 65, and found; married do., L7O and upwards. New arrivals, as a rule, are tested at less money. Female servants, for general work, get L 36, L4O, and L 45. Barmaids, cooks, &c., 20s per week, and often more. Masons, carpenters', See., 12s to 14s. Gardeners and shepherds, L6O to L7O per year. Boys and girls are asked for, and get from 5s to 10s per week. Day laborers, from 8s to 10s, but work is a good deal broken by the weather at present.
