CRIMINAL SITTING.
, Wednesday, July 8. Before his Honor Mr Justice Chapman, and a Petty Jury.) ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO MURDER. The hearing of evidence in the charge agdnst Louis Buisson was continued yesterday after we went $0 press. Dr Borrows and tmily Matheson gave similar evidence to what they gave at the Resident Magistrate’s Court on July 9 ; and Dr Bakewell’s evidence agreed in all material respects with that of Dr Borrows.
Thursday, July 9. Dr Bakewell’s cross-examination was con= eluded this morning, and Mr Johnston addressed the jury on behal' of the prisoner.. Drs Cole, Bums, and Hulme were examined for the defence. The first stated that no marks of such violence as prisoner’s wife accused her husband of using could be observed, there only a slight redness of
the throat.— Dr Burns said the appearance of the woman’s throat might have been caused by a simple cold.—Dr Hulme’s evidence was to a similar effect, he adding, however, that no person could have spoken (as prisoner’s wife said she did) while anyone’s fingers were being pressed on the throat in the manner described by Mrs Buisson.
