EDUCATION BOARD.

The following is-the remainder of the business transacted at yesterday's meeting of the Board;—

A petition presented to the Provincial Council from Invercargill, asking that provision might be made for separate boys’ and girls’ schools at Invercargill, was referred to the local School Committee.

An application from Messrs Fergnsson, Murray, and Stables, second masters of schools in Dunedin and Port Chalmers, for an allowance for residence, was refused A communication was read from the Mosgiel school, asking if the use of the building ra ght be granted to the Good Templars. It was decided that the Committee should exercise their discretion in the matter.

GRANTS FOR SCHOOL BUILDINGS. Twenty-six applications for grants for school buildings were referred to the Executive for their consideration.

NEW REGULATIONS. The following resolution was carried: That Inspectors of Schools be instructed to draft, for the consideration of the Board, a series of regulations, for the information and guidance of School Committees, teachers, and others interested, such regulations to include the following subjects The examination, classification, and remuneration of teachers and pupil teachers, inspection and examination of Grammar and Common Schools by standards, and the partial payment of teachers by results, the competition for Provincial Scholarships, Ac."

DAYS OF MBKTINGK Upo» the suggestion of the Secretary, it was decided that the future meetings of the Board should be held on the first Monday in each month. J

ARROW. With reference to the matters that had come before the Board in connection with this school, Mr Petrie reported that the matter had been settled, and that there was no necessity for the Board to take any fur* ther action.

Ihe following applications for teachers from various schools were dealt with; Maungatua, for a pupil teacher—granted; - aseby, for a pupil teacher—granted ; Porbury, for an interim master and mistress granted; Kensington, for an interim master and mistress—agreed to ; Kaikorai, for a second master—declined ; Kiverton, for # sewing mistress granted ; Waikouaiti, for a pupil teacher—grauted; Outram, for an assistant teacher—granted a pupil teacher; Queenstown, for an assistant teacher postponed ; Wakari, for a schoolmistress—granted; Clark’s Plat) for a side school to be converted into a . ,* Qa i Q school—postponed ; Beaumont, similar application— postponed; Blue Spur, similar application postponed ; Dunedin North School, for a remale teacher—granted; Balolutha, lor a female teacher—a pupil teacher granted; Oamaru, for an assistant teacher, postponed.
