PORT CHALMERS REGATTA.

The morning opened heavy S.W. weather, and it was expected Ijy many that the regatta would be postponed to a more favorable day, but the hegatta Committee thought otherwise, and deemed it advisable to make a start. The Scimitar had been placed at the disposal of the committee by. Captain Fox, but the Harbormaster considered it inadvisable to move her off the pier, and the Asia, which was alongside the wharf, was used instead. Shortly after noon the gun fired for the first race, but the competitors evidently disliked the appearance of the weather, for not one came to the scratch. The Committee shortly afterwards held a meeting in Clark’s store, at which it was decided to postpone the regatta until next Friday. A scratch' match was got up for ship’s gigs, for which there were four entries the William Davie, Scimitar, Wellington, and, Undine. They all : got away together, but on reaching the Dallam Tower the Wil-. liam Davie and Undine took the lead* They hung well together; but in the straight pull home the Undine, being the lighter boat, get lead, and won by ftbout 'three lengths ; Scimitar second. ■ One or, two ether scratch .matches were also arranged, but we have not heard of-any results. , : r ' ‘
