The whole scheme is expected to be in working order early next month. Nenson, April 29. At the races to-day, the weather was lovely, with a fair attendance. The Maiden Plate, of 25 sovs, was won by Monarch; the Jockey Club Handicap, 160 sovs, was won by Yatterina, Calumny second, and Kakapo third. It was a magnificent race. The Handicap steeplechase was won by Rustic, and the Ladies’ Purse by Kakapo. _ _ Blenheim, April 30. Mr Charles Redwood’s stables were burnt early yesterday morning, but no horses were in. ■ • . Rotorua, April 29. The Native meeting proceedings consisted chiefly of the presentation of mats to Mr Mackay and other Europeans. The speeches generally were in favor of leasing land, and of a corporate (? separate) Government for the Maoris. Auckland, April 29, The half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New Zealand was held to-day. The report stated that the net profit to 31st March, after making allowance for bad debts and depreciation, amounted to 141,820. The balance of undivided profit is 18,892; and total balance available for division, 150,712. The following is recommendedA dividend of 10 per cent, which is equal to 130,000 ; a bonus of 2J per cent, or 18,500 ; and the. balance carried to profit and loss (new) account, 112,212. The report was adopted.
