RAILWAY REFRESHMENT ROOMS.

To the Editor. Sir, —I noticed a letter in your issue last evening, signed “Traveller,” which I consider requires a reply. Ido not know who Traveller is; but before giving bis opinion on matters he evidently knows nothing about, I would strongly advise him to travel.

• ave travelled through the Continent, Great Britain, America, and the Colonies ; and so far as my experience goes, and I apprehend it is greater than “Traveller’s,” the railway refreshment rooms are much better conducted, supply better liquors and refreshments, and are a greater boon to travellers than most public-houses ; in fact, where railways exist, refreshment rooms are indispensable.

As a visitor to this Province, I can say that, with respect to the refreshment rooms both at Dunedin and Port Chalmers, the style and manner in which they are conducted, the quality of the liquors and refreshments, particularly at Port Chalmers, reflect great credit on the lessees; and the met that hot coffee, tea, pies, pastry, fruit, &c., are always obtainable, must be a great boon to passengers by early and late steamers ; and it is scarcely necessary for me to draw a comparison between the Port Chalmers refreshment rooms and the nearest public-house. —1 am,

One who does Travel, Dunedin, April 25.
