BANK HOLIDAYS.

To tlie Editor. Sir, —Are there any atmospheric phenomena prevalent upen the approach of St. George's Day, which could tend to render the bile of "bilious" people more obstreperous and ungovernable than at any other times and seasons ? or are we to come to the conclusien that vhen " bilious " gentlemen do make puns, they are so good that they ought to be as widely diffused as possible If Saints are a nuisance, why are not

“ bilious ” individuals “ taken bad ” on the eves of other Saints’ days. According to their own account, they seem to be troubled with annual attacks of spleen. Perhaps, however, we may account for this remarkable coincidence by ascribing to them a generally splenetic temperament, guided by a few rules of common prudence ; and these may be the reasons why other Saints are

not assaulted. The “Jack Straws” of Colonial society (and their name is legion) would be only too ready to jump up and' avenge any insult or slight offered to their dear friend relation “Pat Lick;” and moat certainly, in such a community as this, if ony one attempted to neglect the performance of the honors due to the Scottish Saint, many days would not elapse before they Would be forced to repent “and rue ” it. Trusting that this annually returning epidemic may diejj out in,the course of time. —I am, &c.,
