The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was L 1,374 8s 3d. STANDARD INSURANCE COMPANY. In accordance with the articles of association the Shareholders of the above Company met in the Athenaeum Hall last eveningfor the purpose of electing a permanent directory, and an auditor. The Secretary (Mr C. Reid) read the following statement “ Branch agents have been appointed in Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, .Auckland, and Napier, with sub-agents in the various centres of population throughout these Provinces. Local agents have also been appointed in Invercargill, Lawrence, TokomaiXiro, Waikouaiti, and Oamaru; also in Sydney, Melbourne, and London ; and proposals have been made to a large firm in Glasgow to accept an agency there. The business of the Company throughout the Colony of New Zealand gives promise of being very considerable ; this is in some measure owing to the liberal basis upon the Company is constituted, viz., allowing every insurer, whether a shareholder or not, to participate in the profits of the Company, thereby offering greater inducements to the general public than any other Company in this Colony. The amount of business already done has exceeded the expectations of the promoters, and I am happy to add that, to the present time, the losses have been nil,” The following gentlemen, who acted as provisional directors, were appointed to act permanently in that capacity : Messrs James Anderson, George Young, James Curie, Louis Thoneman, David Baxter, G. F. Reid, and James Patterson,—The meeting then proceed to appoint an auditor, when the following gentlemen were proposed : Messrs A. C. Hegg, J. Boyd, and Douglas. The choice of the meeting fell upon Mr Begg.—After some discussion the remuneration for the auditor was fixed at L 25 a-year.
