UNSOLD STATE LANDS.
“Posture-makers, Mountebanks, Quacks, and Half-fledged Politicians,” To the Editor. Slß,—Such are the epithets used by your contemporary, the ‘guardian,’ which, I fcbin£. ipstify a few words of quiet comment. Who apd what ig the writer of those aenungiqtory articles, psetend|ng, in god-like wisppm, tplovyef all opposing ideqs \n tye dust —and paprq especially Vfh eQ thgy pqnflict With his ipteffest, be tfiey true of ’ apt ? Op wjjat cle^rly ; dpfined grqunds does qo hpsp his iptolprant assumptions that all are wrong who differ with him, and who conceive there are liberties and rights beyond those conceded by human selfishness, or provided by common law apd the usages of society ? With reference to the land, 1 will ask: Has man a claim to anything he does not produce in some form or the other? Was the earth made by man ? If not, was it intended for individual monopoly, or collective use ? If successive generations claim by natural law equal rights and privileges, what right has a previous generation to utilize the rights of the unborn ? Admitted that it has, why not seize the sun and moon, and rule the variable winds ? Convinced that all argument would be lost on a creature paid to write against his conscience and convictions, X will olose my remarks in a more polite way than is his habit of addressing my order, by informing him that, by, with, and through such creatures as him, society has been placed on an artificial basis; human rights have been ignored ; and every refined evil encouraged ; while, on the other hand, rebels, who have dared everything for justice and truth, have been tbe chief means of securing every liberty we possess.—l am, &c., Internationalist.
