Lawrence, February 14. The great case of Clayton and others against Morrison and others, which has already cost so much to the litigants, and which was to have been tried again next month before Judge Chapman, has been settled satisfactorily by private arrangement between the parties to-day. Each side pays its own costs. „ Wellington, February 14, Ino New Zealand Steam Shipping Company have decided to withdraw the Phoebe from the Sydney and Manukau trade, and again place her m the Interprovincial trade. It is said that the Government have arranged with the above Company for the conveyance to and from Napier of the Volunteers for. the Colonial Prize Firing. m. T , , February 16. ~® -Luna left on Saturday night for a trip round the Island to discover eligible sites for the proposed new lighthouses. She proceeds first to Cape Campbell, Goclley Head, Timaru, Otago Heads, Stewart Island, going up the West Coast. ( She will touch at the South-west Cape, where it is proposed to erect a lighthouse, then proceeds to Greymouth to coal ; visits Westport, where she will be detained while the P a [ty to Cape Foulwind, where a lighthouse site is now being cleared. She then returns to Wellington. Auckland, February IG. In consequence of a protest by the American Consul, and an objection of the passengers by the Mikado, Captain Moore refused to take the murderer Sullivan to San Francisco, and turned him off the ship at Auckland. There is great indignation here in consequence of his liberation,; and the proposal to ship him to America is condemned by all the papers. The Mikado left at 4 p.m. . . Queenstown, February 16. There is increasing litigation about the water water rights claimed by the Corporation. The news from the reefs (is more hopeful than for a long time past.
