Bluff, February 14. The Otago, Captain M‘Lcan, arrived at 10 a.m. to-day. She left Melbourne at 4 p.m. on the Bth, and brings the English mail, 63 saloon, and 31 steerage passengers, besides 403 tons of cargo for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at 4 p.m,, but brings.no later English news. Passenger list: Saloon—Mrs MTvenzio, Dr Hudson, Messrs Wood, Campbell, Raphael, Coombe, Cogle, Atkinson, M‘Leod, llekel, Robertson, Shirley, Miss Wood, Miss M'Keuzie, Miss Jacob, Mrs Woolfe, Mr Quiggin, Mr M‘Glashan, Madame llekel, Signor Chechi, Misses Robertson (2), Mrs Shirley, and two children, Mrs Swanstone, Misses Swanstone (3), and two servants ; 25 in the steerage, and 200 tons cargo. Auckland, February 13. In reply to the deputation against Sunday trains, the Colonial ‘Secretary said that the lines were entirely in the hands of the contractors till April. The Sydney correspondent of the ‘New Zealand Herald’ reports English Eleven v. combined Sydney and Victorian team : English, first innings, 170; second do, 236. Combined team, first innings, 93 ; second do, 80. Nelson, February 14. DrTumell, Warden and Resident Magistrate, was drowned in the Takataka river to-day. His body has not been recovered. Grahamstown, February 13. Gold has been struck in the Golden Calf mine. 36 ounces of stone contained 30 ounces of gold. The shares are advancing. The mine has been worked four years without paying. Miners are scarce, and an advance in wages is expected. _ . ’ February 14. Mr Miliett, District Engineer, died very suddenly this morning; it is supposed from heart disease. Deceased was much respected, and was well known in Otago, where he was formerly employed on the survey staff. Longbush, February 14. The Woodlands section of the Mataura line was opened to-day. twelve carriages passing over it. Governor Weld was present.
