Mr Vogel has accepted an invitation to a public dinner here on Tuesday next. . Hokitika, February 6. The Fire Brigade banquet last night was a great success. The Superintendent presented Mr M'Farlane, the late captain of the Brigade, with a testimonial and purse of sovereigns, „ Tauranga, February 6. The Superintendent and the Executive are visiting the district on immigration and other settlement purposes. They were heartily received. A public meeting is to be held to-night. , Queenstown, February 7. The Invercargill Cricket Club won the match with the Queenstown Club in one innings, with forty-five runs to spare. The Queenstown Club was wretchedly deficient except in bowling. Hie visitors were well received. The harvest is splendid. Oats yield an average of forty bushels, and barley the same. Wheat averages thirty bushels. Labor is more abundant than for four years past. The miners will not sell their gold. Mr .Shepherd, M.H. R., by request, addresses a meeting on the Goldfields Bill to-night. Christchurch, February 7. The Wesleyan Conference yesterday decided that the annual conference should be composed of all ministers and one layman from each district, equal to the number of ministers chosen as representatives ; that the next New Zealand Conference be held at Auckland on January 14, 1070. At the Conference Ordination Service yesterday the following probationers were ordained to the full work of the ministry :—W. 11 Cni / cl ' b,u 'y j W. H. Beck, Lawrence; r Ki Laut L rb ui'y; J- w.
