COACH ACCIDENT.

An accident of a dangerous nature occurred to the afternoon coach from Dunedin to Tokomairiro on Wednesday. It appears that as the coach was approaching Dunrobiu, blast Taieri, about half past three o’clock, the horses, when passing an entire horse, shied, and went a little off the centre of the road, when the coach overturned. It is necessary to explain that at this spot the road is narrow, and much rounded up in the centre. There were eight passengers in the coach at the time, and all, with one exception, were more or less injured. These injuries were sprains, bruises, &c., but no bones were broken or other serious damage sustained. The passengers, having been extricated from the coach, went to Mr M‘Kay’s house, where they met with every kindness and attention. The mid-day coach from Tokomairiro passed a few minutes after the accident, and, upon its arrival in Dunedin, a fresh coach was sent out to convey the passengers to Tokomairiro, where they all landed a little before ten o’clock. Before the coach capsized the driver had pretty well regained control over hia horses and reduced their speed, otherwise, matters would, in all likelihood, have proved .much more serious. So soon, however, as the coach toppled over, the fore carriage became detached, and the horses went off like a shot. 'J hey shortly came into contact with a telegraph post, when tbe pole was smashed to atoms, and one of the horses very severely injured. We are assured by the passengers that not the least blame attaches to the driver, who did everything that man could do under the circumstances.—‘ Bruce Herald.’
