Pout Chalmers, January 26. A fireman named Alexander Hamilton, be-; longing to the Gothenburg, fell down the; •Graving Dock, and was conveyed to the hospital by tbefour o’clock train. The extent of his injuries is unknown. Christchurch, January 24. : The first annual shareholders’ meeting of the New Zealand Shipping Company was held this afternoon. There was a large attendance. Mr W. Beeves, M.H.K., was chairman, and made a statement of the business transacted during the past year, and the position and prospects of the Company. The Chairman also read the report and statement. Mr Gould moved the adoption of the report and statement of accounts, remarking that both were exceedingly satisfactory. Mr Birch seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr G. Hart, it was resolved to increase the number of directors from ten to twelve. Messrs J. W. Beeves and J. Studholme, of Canterbury, and Mr J. Johnstone, of Wellington, the retiring directors, were re-elected. Sir S. S. Bevans, of Canterbury, was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr R. Cobb, and Messrs C. W. Turner and A C. Wilson, of Canterbury, to the two new seats on the directory. Messrs D. Craig and J. Teins were re-' elected as auditors. Auckland, January 24. The divorce case, Carpenter v. Carpenter,; resulted iu a verdict for the petitioner on all the issues. The verdict will be reviewed at the Court of Appeal in March. ' Wellington, January 26. Robert 1 niton, late carpenter of the William I apscott, has just obtained a verdict of LSO and costs against Captain M‘lntyre, tbe American’ Consular Agent, for the value of his chest of tools taken away in the vessel, and for which iVx Intyre promised to become responsible.
