To the Editor. rV S^ s ’^ n ? olu^issue ? f e ' 26tji -ultimo, your ; Upper Shotover correspondent, in“refereuce;tp 1 the progress the Shotover Company are mating with their works, says— the time of the formation of the company a tunnel was in : existence, which would have served the purpose of conveying water, and had the claim then been placed in?the hand's of a : skiUedfehgineer, :it would have been utilised; unfortunately it was allowed to fall in and go to destruction in the same manner as other portions bf the claim to which communication will have again to be restored.” I beg leave to contradict this statement. There never, was, r since nor before the formation of the company, ahy tunnel heading from Graces claim towards Pleasant Creek except the tunnels required to work the face’ which passed out of my hands in good working order. The only communication that ever existed is Eagar’s main tunnel, which can be repaired and pat in.
