LABOR IN THE OAMARU DISTRICT.

To the. Editor. Sir, - I noticed in your Friday’s issue that a deputation of employers of labor in the Oamaru district had waited on his Honor the Superintendent, agitating tor a supply of labor for the harvest time, and also complaining of the difficulty of getting married men. Now. Sir, I wish to state through your paper that the very men who were on the deputation do not give encouragement to married farm laborers. In the first place they have no accommodation for more khan three or four families, at the most, on their estates, and some not that; and in the next place they have a great objection to married people having children on their farms ; so that while they carry on their present system, they always will be abort of married men. As for their wanting 2,000 men for the harvest, I fully believe that, but I am also sure they won’t require 25 per cent, of them after the harvest is over ; so it ia only fair that the working man should stick out for high wages for a month or two, when the farmers won’t require them again till another harvest; and, despite all they can do, the wages will be high this, and I hope every other season. Hoping you will insert this in your valuable paper.—l am, &c., A Married Man. Dunedin, December 16.
