RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Thursday, December 18. (Before Drs. Drysdale and O’Donoghue, J.P’s.) Drun'KEXNKRS.--Robert Smith was fined 10a or twenty-four hours’. Wra. Moir forfeited his bail by not appearing. Assault,— Wm. Moir was charged with assaulting and striking Sergeant Neil, but did not appear. —Sergeant ISeil suited he was standing on the kerb near the George Hotel last evening, when Moir came out of the hotel and run into the midi lie of the street. He then came back and said he had authority to put witness off the kerb, at the same time pushing witness. Afterwards Moir struck witness in the face, but did not hurt him. Moir was very violent before being taken to the station.—Dr, Drysdale corrolwrated the sergeant’s testimony.—-Sergeant Neil stated he had no desire to pi cas for a heavy tine, Moir had a wife and large family, and seemed very sorry this morning. —Their Worships stated it would have been bettor if Moir had appeared and made an apology. They would inJliet a fine of -10s.
