DEATH THROUGH FIRE.

We regret to state that a little girl of tender years, the daughter of Mr P. Kneebone, carrier, W-.ikoua.iti, died on Friday morning last from injuries sustained through being accidentally burnt a few weeks ago. It appears that the little child, who always seemed anxious to be doing something, had been helping her mother, and when in the act of stirring the contents of a p t that was simmering on the fire, her dress accidentally caught fire. Mrs Kneebone unfortunately was outside at the time, having just previously left her daughter, and fancying she heard an unusual cry of alarm, she rushed into the house and was horrified to find the poor little thing enveloped in flamps, and jp hev terror attempting to get under the bed. Mrs Kneebone succeeded in putting out the flames, when it was found that the child had been much burnt, and received a sh. ck to the nervous system, which imperilled her life, Dr Brown was called in, and under Ids treatment the little girl was progressing very favorably; and when her parents wore undpr the impression that she was recovering, she somewhat suddenly expired. On seeing the child just after she was burnt Dr Brown expressed the opinion that nothing short of a miracle could save her life. From the general improvement and elasticity of spirits, however, which the child manifested some days before her death, the most sanguine hopes were entertained of her recovery.
