THE CROMWELL REEFS.

A gentleman who has during the past week visited the principal quartz mining ventures in the district informs the Dnustnn. Times that the prospects are remarkably cheering on the Garrick, as also on Bendigo. He spoke of the Elizabeth Company's claim as being particularly healthy. He says the management hitherto has been at fault with regard to the position of the true reef, and in the breaking away of stone have invariably taken too much mullock. Experience, however, has taught them wisdom, and they now know the reef so well that none but golden stone will in future be broken down. They have in sight a reef three feet and a half thick, and bared to a depth of 240 feet. The crushing at present under way, it is assumed, will pay over an ounce to the ton. The John Bull are engaged crushing a parcel of about 300 tons of stone. About 14U tons have been put through, ami, to all appearance-, will yield from 18 dwta to an ounce to the ton. The company’s claim at Bendigo, our informant says, never looked so well. A second make of stone lias been struck, averaging about 3.4 feet in thickness, and showing a yield of four ounces to the ton. The Lucknow Company are having their new tunnel pushed ahead as fast as possible, and it is now within 45 feet of the line of the reef.
