THE INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH.
(By Telegraph.) Christchurch, November 19. The weather to-day was cold and showery. The weakness of the Canterbury bowling was again apparent, and the rain made matters worse; but the fielding was splendid. Auckland batted with great steadiness. With one exception, all the team are good batsmen—one of the best batting teams ever seen in Canterbury. The innings lasted about five hours. Betting slightly in favor of Auckland. The following are the scores : Auckland.—Second Innings. Bcllars, c Fowler, b Fuller - - 4 Alpe, b Fuller - - - - 10 Dufaur, bE. Fowler - - - 27 Muraford, b Fuller - - 15 Yates, c and bE. The weather is glorious, and the attendance large, including the Governor and Lady Fergnsson. A. Ollivier and G. Barker were first sent to the stumps for Canterbury, Sweete and Robinson bowling; careful batting was the order of the day. Both men played beautifully. Several changes were made in the bowling, but of no avail, till 12.35, when Barker was bowled by a shooter from Lankham. On the fall of the first wicket the score stood—Ollivier (not out), 13; Barker, 30 ; extras, 2; total, 45. Cotterill commenced his innings by a drive off Lankham for 2, which brought the score to 47. 2.30 p.m. Ollivier and Cottorill remained together till 13 were added to the score, when Ollivier was caught by Sweete off his own bowling. 2 for 58. J. Fowler joined Cotterill. The latter played beautifully. The scores mounted rapidly until 1.30, when Cotterill was caught by Alpe, the long stop, off Lankham, while making a leg hit. Only one extra was given all this time, and it was a wide by Lankham. 3 for 94. Corfu joined Fowler, who was beautifully caught off La nkham’s next ball by Cotton, at point. 4 for 94. Buckland was then put on instead of Robinson, but after three overs was replaced by Lankham. At 3.20, Corfe was caught and bowled by Sweete. Five for 129. 4 p.m. Eight wickets have fallen for 140.
