Saturday, Novembers. (Before I. N. Watt, Esq., R.M.) AfiSAUi/r. —Kate M‘Donald was brought up on remaud charged with assaulting John Briggs (who died in the Hospital last night). —\\illiam Augustus Yates, resident surgeon at the Hospital, stated that on the 9th ult. Briggs was admitted to that institution suffering from delirium tremens. He said nothing about having received a wound, but the wardsman of No. 4 ward discovered one on the next day. Witness examined it. It was on the right side of Briggs’s head, was an incised wound, and about three inches in length. The spade produced might indict such a wound. After a wpek after his admission Briggs became paralysed on (;he left side, and in another week comatose. He had not been quite ip his right mind from the first day, until the 2|)thult., when he re, covered his senses, and on the same afternoon his depositions were taken. He then continued generally insensible, but occasionally reviving, until yesterday morning, when he became lethargic, breathing heavily, ■'livl unable to speak or swallow, remaining insensible till ten p.m , when he died. !n answer to a question as to what was the cause of deceased’s death, Dr Yates said hie
