The barque Horatio Sprague is expected to sail for Newcastle this evening. The discharging of the piles for the new jetty from the barque Cesavewitch is fast proceeding. , ~ ’The p.s. Samson, for Oamaru, and the s.s, Maori, for Lyttelton and Timaru, sail to-mor-row afternoon. . The s.s. Taranaki, from Northern Ports, is due at Port Chalmers this evening, and sails again for the North on Tuesday. The s.s. Lady of the Lake, which was ashore at Timaru, and the schooner Oreti, were taken into the "Taring dock this morning. The barque Harriet Armitago, for Sydney, via Auckland, was towed down from Dunedin by the tug Geelong yesterday to finish taking in her cargo. T m i „ The threc-mastod schooner C. L. Taylor, which left here for Newcastle on the 13th ot October, was seen about six miles off the Heads last Wednesday from the pilot station. The Port Chalmers Railway jetty was lighted with gas for the first time last evening, and will prove a great boon to those who have occasion to be on the jetty of a dark night, and may be the means of preventing accidents. The trial trip of the s.s. Fairy, built by Messrs Kincaid and M'Queen for Napier, ( was made this morning under the command of ( apt. Deuchrass. About fifty ladies and gentlemen accompanied her, by invitation of the builders The time occupied from Dunedin to lort Chalmers jetty was one hour and nine minutes. The s.s. Wanganui arrived at 10.15 this morning, having left the Bluff at 7.30 last night. Experienced fine weather. After discharging cargo at the Peter Denny, she pioceeded to Dunedin. The Harbor Co.’s s.s, Maori, from Lyttelton, via intermediate ports, arrived at 2.40 this morning. Reports leaving Lyttelton at b.40 p m. on the 30th ; arrived at Timaru at 8. In a’.m. on the 31st; left again at 3 p.m., and arrived at Oamaru at 8 p.m.; left against at 3.10 p.m., and arrived as above._ After coaling alongside the barque Horatio Sprague, she passed up to Dunedin. The barque Thomas Brown, from Launceston, arrived this morning, after a fine passage of six days. Reports leaving Launceston on the 25th "October, with light westerly; winds, losing the laud on the following day, with fine weather, and N. Yf. and S. W. winds until making the Solauders on the 30th ; passed Foveaux Straits at 10 p.m. same day; passed thclsugfets at noon on the 31st, and arrived off tho leads last evening; had light and variable winds along the coast, and sailed up to her anchorage under the charge of Pilot Kelly at 7.30 a.m.
