A FOURTH CITY SCHOOL.

At a mooting of the Dunedin School Committee hist night, at which were present Messrs Stout, Livingston, Robin, Hay, Wright, Slierwin, Cordon, and Langscigne, a deputation consisting of Dr Richardson and Messrs (4rant and Thomson, was introduced, and urged the necessity of establishing a new school near IVlichct Lay. Dr Richardson pointed out the urgent necessity of a school in the locality, and Mr Crant a Iso'advocated a school being placed on the Wharfs and Quays Deserve, near the Railway Station. A petition signed by about forty-five persons was presented, asking the ('oinmittce to further the views advocated by the deputation. After considerable discussion the following minute was drawn up, on the motion of Mr Stout, seconded hy Mr Robin, and agreed to : —That as the Committee have arranged to meet the City Council or Reserves Committee to confer as to the best site for a fourth school; and as the site proposed by the deputation is put forward rather as a proper site for a new elementary school than a normal school, the Committee resolve that, pending negotiations with the Education Board and City Council, no definite resolution as to site be come to. Also resolve that the Committee do not sec any objection to the establishment of a school in the north-eastern part of Dunedin, provided the erection of a new school is warranted hy the number of children in the locality, and that the Education Board are willing to sanction a. further school.” Mr James IT. ‘"Russell, on behalf of the deputation that waited on his Honor the Superintendent, requested the Committee to fix a time when the same deputation from the lower portion of .Bell Ward might meet the Committee, and it was resolved that the matter lie referred to the Secretary to arrange a time of meeting.
