The ship Peter Denny was removed from the railway pier, and anchored in the stream this 111 The barque Harriett Armitage, after a long passage of 102 days from Hong Kong, arrived this morning, find anchoied oil Deborah. Day, but being of a light draught of water, will proceed to Dunedin to discharge. She brings a general cargo, consigned to Messrs Houghton and Co., and four Chinese passengers, bhe left here on March 27, and made a fine run, landing her passengers in Hong Kong in W days. The fine North German barque Nicotine, from Poo-chow sailed up this morning and anchored close to the railway pier Captain Ahlmann reports leaving on the 2«th of July, with S W. ■winds to Linchoten Island ; thence light N.L, winds to Yokohama, which was passed on the Bth of August; thence b W winds to the 14th, in long. ICO; then strong N.L. winds until reaching lat 50, long. 70 E.; thence L. S. E winds to the Equator, which was crossed on the lOtli m long. 178. The S.E. trades, which were very light, were caught in lat. 5 S., and’lost in 2(5 S. Passed Speiden or Lynx Island on the 20th; sighted Norfolk Island on the Ist of October, with strong S.E. and S.W. winds, with heavy rain and lightning, until reaching hit. Jo b., long. 170 E. On the 6th had a heavy gale from the N \V., which veered round to the b. W. for fourteen hours, the ship being under close-reefed topsails for that time; then light westerly winds. Sighted Mount Egmont at noon on the Bth ; on the 9th encountered a heavy b.E. gale when under close-reefed topsails; reefed foresail, split the mizen staysail ; at 9 p.m. the wind died away, and a light S.E. wind enabled her to beat through Cook’s Straits, and passed Man* light on the 13th at daylight ; was off Banks Peninsula for twenty-four hours, then light N.W. winds until sighting the Heads at 1 p.m. yesterday, arriving off the Heads at 8 p.m.; took the pilot on board at 7 o’clock this morning, and arrived as above. She is consigned to Messrs Neill and Co,, and will discharge at the railway pier.
