Captain Underwood, of the Alhambra, and Captain Stewart, of the Lennox Castle, as well as tho carpenters of both vessels, report the William Tapacott to be seaworthy, hut recommend repairs. The chief engineer of the Alhambra has made a survey to that effect. The Government have received a telegram from Gisborne, Poverty Bay, announcing that the sittings of the Native Lands Court there have been resumed. The inquiry into the grounding of the Lady Bird on the Manukau bar is proceeding. September I. It is believed that the Premier has been promised a dissolution in the event of a defeat. A subscription is being raised on behalf of the crew of the William Tapacott. The Civil Service Club dinner was held on Saturday night. The Premier was present. Auckland, August 30.
