The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was lAO 7 10s lid. _ The total amount of revenue received at the Custom House for the month of August was L 25.105 14s 4d, as against L 18.825 12s Id for the preceding month. The large increase may be attributed to the new tariff. Business during the past week has been dull, partly because of the broken and tempestuous weather and partly through the usual slackness of sale* at the close of the month. Much inconvenience will result through the Dallam Tower having put into Melbourne for repairs, for, in addition to bringing a general cargo for Dunedin, she has on board a heavy shipment for warehousemen of spring goods. Quotations throughout the week have been, on the whole, well maintained. Kerosene may be quoted at Is lid. Henessey’s brandy, 8s 3d ; case, 31s 6d, Butter is coming in freely, and is a shade easier. Bottled ale is very scarce, and parcels in good condition command fair prices. The supply of sugars is still limited, and present stocks are firmly held. _ A cargo may, however, shortly be expected, which will tend to meet present necessities. No change can be quoted in other goods. Messrs J. and A. Maclean held a sale of town and suburban properties to-day, but the greatsr number of lota were withdrawn, biddings not reaching the reserve price. The following were sold -Six quarter-acre sections at Koslyn, L 350; two quarter-acre sections in Castle street; L 41 0; 5-acro section. Anderson’s Bay, L 51 0; two quarter-acre sections at The Glen, 1/26 each ; and two do, do,, same place, L 25 each. In breadstuffs the market has been of late very quiet. For prime milling wheat there exists a limited inquiry, and for really good samples 5s fid is obtainable. The millers are at present pretty well stocked, and «u _ this account they are not buying much. An improvement is likely to take place in the demand for wheat in about six weeks or two months; in the meantime holders may have some difficulty in securing a value for the grain., Second-class wheat is not in sale. Oats meet with brisk s?\ e at 4s 4d to 4s 5d ; the market is bare. Barley is saleable in small quantities at 6s 9d to 7 s . In flour there is a good trade_ demand. The price has been without alteration for the last few months —Ll2 10s for sacks and Ll v , for bags. Bran is firm at L 3 10s ; stocks low, and a rise, in the price is expected. Pollard, L 5. Pearl barley, L 32. A. Mercer reports for the W'eek ending Aug. 30, retail prices only :—Fresh butter in Alb and 11b prints, best quality, la 7d to Is 8d per lb ; second quality, Is 5d to Is fid par lb; fresh butter in lumps, Is 3d par lb ; powdered and salt butter, Is 3d per lb ; salt butter in kegs is not much inquired for, the stocks are increasing, but it is worth, for prime quality, Is to Is id per lb. The supply of butter has very much increased during the week, and prices are declining. Cheese is worth Is per lb. Side and rolled bacon, 9cl to lOd per lb. Beef ham, ?d to 8d per lb. Boiled beef hams, 9d per lb. Colonial hams, Is to Is 2d per lb. English hams, Is 8d per lb. Eggs have been very plentiful this week, and selling at Is 2d to Is 3d per doz.
[By Telegraph.] Auckland, August 29. —Mr Binney reports the grain market dull. Oats inquired for, but holders are not disposed to accept present rates. Potatoes are scarce, but large Southern shipments are advised. Southern flour is unchanged. Barley, none in the market. Maize, 4s 6d ; kauri, 9s 6d to 16s. Mr John Reid reports Dunedin flour dull of sale at Ll3 to Ll3 10s; oats, ss.
