Monday, August 4. (Before His Worship the Mayor; and J Black, Esq., J.P.)

Drunkenness. —James Horn and Joseph Brown, having been in the lock up since Saturday night, were discharged with a caution. John Sullivan was fined 53, with the option of twenty-four hours’ imprisonment —William M‘Pee and John Brown, each 10s, or forty-eight hoars’. Obscene Language. —Marion M'Donald, Augustus Sowden, and William M'Fee, charged with making use of indecent language, were each fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’; a similar charge against George Elson was dismissed on payment of costs, the language having been used by defendant (who bears an excellent character) in the heat of an electioneering campaign. Disobeying a Summons. —Augustus Sowden was further charged with disobeying a summons of the Court. Sub-Inspector Mallard stated that the summons was issued and duly served on the accused, whereupon he vent to Blueskin and hid himself in the bush, which necessitated the constable searching for him the whole of the previous day. After being warned by the Bench, he was discharged. Infringement of the Bye-Laws. —David Briggs, Frederick Clayton, and John O’Donnell, for leaving their horses and carts unattended, were each fined in the sum of 2s fid, together with costs.—William Rutherford, allowing the chimney of the house occupied by him to be on tire, ss, and costs; and a similar charge against Edward Sheeny was dismissed.
