Drunkenness. Robert W. Winn alia* Walker was lined ss, with the alternative of twenty-four hours’ imprisonment ; John (rlceson and William Davies, each 20s or three days’. Damaging Private Property. John Black, alias Duncan, on bail, was charged with damaging one glass case, containing raeerohaum pipes, the value pf 4s, the property of Nathan Hart, fancy goods Fleet street, on the 12th lust. The accused was passing through Fleet street shortly before midnight on Saturday, rather the worse for liquor, and leaning over a glass contain* ing meerschaum pipes, broke a number, causing damage to the amount of L 3. Accused pleaded guilty, and W fined QQs, With the option of forty reight hours’ intfprlsonment, and ordered to pay L 3 for the damage done ; in default, three days’ imprisonment with hard labor. He was further charged with assaulting Nathan Hart, On the application of prosecutor, who said he knew the defendant to be a hard-working and peaceful man, the case was dismissed.— A charge preferred by Thomas Whittaker against Henry Entwhistle, of breaking a pane of glass in a house owned by S. Hayes, was dismissed. Assaulting the Police.— Jas. Robertson SScott Was' changed With assaulting (Jemstable James M’Kinlay While in the exeem tion of his duty, at the Police Station, Maolaggan street at 7-30 am on the 14th. —Constable M'Kinlay stated that the defendant, who was a recent arrival by the James Nicol Fleming, went into the station where witness was on duty, and asked to be locked up, saying he was drunk. When requested to leave he refused to do so, striking him (witness) and saying he would see him d—d. —Defendant stated that all the coHb table had related was quite correct.—He was fined in the sum of 20s. Unregistered Dog.— John Keith was charged with keeping an unregistered dog above the age of six months. This case bad been previously adjourned to enable defendant to bring witnesses to prove that he was not thq owner of the dog.—He called James Bain, who said that the dog went from-house to house, having first gone to s witness place. —The Bench said this was a. case ia which they could exercise no discretion, they must either dismiss the charge or tine the defendant, the lowest penalty being 40s,
Baring a alight doubt on their minds as to the ownership, they would dismiss the charge. Byb-Law Case.— a lex. Henderson charged with unlawfully removing a portion of the surface on the town Belt, near the Southern Cemetery, was dismissed.
