Under the circumstances Parliament might reasonably be asked to sanction raising the necessary funds. The Public Works Minister bad telegraphed that Mr Carr others would visit Napier in a few dayis and report on the subject. The perjury case aganst Menare Tamoana, a Native chief, was heard to-day and dismissed, on the ground that tbe prosecution had not brought forward tse best evidence as to the statement made, namely, that of Mr Young, the interpreter to (he Native Lands Commission.
