WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held yesterday, were being present—Messrs Thomson {in the chair), Butterworth, and Clark. Tne following business was transacted : - Mr William Mayer’s application for a lease to occupy a piece of land between the road and the Water of Leith, opposite sections 72 and 73, block 5, Dunedin and East Taieri, was declined. Messrs Connell andMoodie, for Mr James Logan, applied to have plans of his application for section 76, block 3, Waipahee, and him declared the purchaser, the said plan to include, as per application, section now numbered 77. Mr Stout appeared for Mr Thomas Turnbull, who had applied for section No. 77. {The Chief Commissioner left the chair during the consideration of this matter.) It was resolved that the application of Mr Thomas Turnbull be received and take precedence of other applications. Mr Logan was declared the purchaser of section 76a. Messrs Connell and Moodle’s application on behalf of Messrs Reid and J. S. Capstick, for three months’ protection to prospect for coal on reserve sections 1, block 3, and naif of 7 and 8, block 2, North Molyneux, was agreed to. The Board resolved, upon the application for ft copper mining lease at Meke Creek, by Messrs Howorth and Bradshaw, made in 1865, and a similar application by Mr W. J. Barry for the same ground, made m 1873, to issue a lease to He original applicants. Mr Connell appeared or Mr Barry. The district land officer at Clyde reported on the application of Messrs Smith and Anderson, cm behalf of Mr F. J. Jay, to purchase sections 70 to 79, block 2, Leaning Bock, held under agricultural lease, and suggested a further postponement of Mr Jay’s rights could be maintained, as water had not yet been brought on the ground to test it, or payment of moderate the ground having been cropped to nearly its limit. The matter was deferred for a week. Messrs Harding and Hughes’s application to purchase the land on which their brewery is built, about two acres, between Clyde and Cromwell, and situate on Mr M‘Lean’s run, was postponed. Mr John Walker’s application for a seven years’ lease of a piece of land in Clyde, being about two acres of the railway reserve, was. granted; the rental being fixed at L2 a year. Mr Leary’s application, on behalf of Mr Jas, Stuart, for a lease of section 44, block 1, Cromwell, for coalmining, was granted on the usual terms: the price of the coal at the pit’s mouth fo be 12s per ton. A letter by Mr W. G. Rutherford to the Superintendent was referred to the Board for its favorable consideration. The writer reported the discovery of from 2,000 to 5,000 acres of pastoral country within the area reserved for special settlement at Waikawa; and applied to lease or purchase it. The Board resolved to grant a license to occupy the land under clause 161 of the 1872 Act; applicant to furnish a sketch. Ranger Innes reported on the application of Mr D, Monro, to purchase part of the bush reserve adjoining section 37, block 1, Otepopo. The application was declined. The following applications for the exchange of goldfields leases for leases under the Act of 1872, were granted:—W. Williams, sections 66, 65, 62, and 67, block 1, Leaning Rock; W. Sabine, sections 16 to 19, block 2, Shotover; John Butel, sections 31, 74, 64, and 65, block 6, and section 13, block 17, do; P. Butel, sections 32, 50, 41, and 76, block 6, do; George White, sections 14,37,19, 16,15, 35, 36, and 33, block 9, do. The surrender by Messrs Love and Reid, oi lease of sections 2 to 5, block 1, Coast district (Cliitha CoaV Reserve), and Mr James Mills’s application for a lease of the same, were approved. Mr Warden Willis reported on the application of Mr S. W. Smith, for a renewal of his license for a water-race from Waikouaiti river. The application was declined. Mr Clark applied to have the unsold portions of sections 9, 10, and 11, block 27, Tokomairiro, put up for sale. It was resolved to offer the land as land of special value, at the upset price of LI per acre. The resolution of the Government, that twelve sections on each side of the Waitaki bridge be surveyed and sold, was noted.
