ELECTION INTELLIGENCE.
The Peninsula nomination took place at the Anderson’s Bay Schoolhouse, to-day, at noon. The candidates nominated were—Mr W. H. Cutten, who was proposed by Mr Joseph Ellison, and seconded by Mr John Matheson ; and Mr W. A. Tolmie, proposed by Mr W. Robertson, and seconded by Mr Peter Bryce. The show of hands was— Cutten, 7; Tolmie, 6. The poll takes place on the 19th inst A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the proceedFaseby correspondent telegraphs today—“ The returns, as far as they have gone! give Mr Oliver 254 votes ; Mr De Lautour, 188; Mr Armstrong, 142; and Mr Mervyn, 90. The Serpentine returns are not jet to hand, but Messrs Oliver and De Lautourare safe.” We have seen a private telegram which states that the Hon. Mr Holmes having retired, Mr Joseph Rodgers, of Glenquoich station, Athol, has been elected, unopposed, for Oreti. , _ mi Mr Stout’s meeting at the Kaikorai Drillshed, last night, was attended by about fifty persons. To a motion of confidence an amendment was proposed, that Mr Stout be simply thuikfid for hi® address. The amendment was lost, four hands only being held up in its favor, and the original motion carried by a large majority. A correspondent telegraphs“ Mr Shepherd, in addressing the electors of Dunstan, said that in Mr Macandrew the miners, he believed, had a firm friend, and that he had rendered valuable aid in the reduction of the gold duty last session. The known supporters of Mr Gillies are working hard for Mr Hariett” . WAITAHUNA. The election for a person to represent the above place in the Provincial Council was held yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr Browne, who represented the district in the last Council. The numbers polled were : Browne, 63 Henly ••• 32 Mackay,' 28 Majority for Browne, ... —3l CLUTHA. The official declaration was made to-day as follows s J. C. Richardson, 206 M'Neil, 160 Thdmson, 140 Messrs Richardson and M'Neil were then declared duly elected. MATAU. The polling for a member to represent the above district in the Provincial Council took place yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr H. Clark, who represented the district in the last Council.
