Although the market at present is very well stocked with fresh butter, there has been a considerable decrease in the quantity coming-in. The town trade is brisk, and a first-rate business is being done in bakers’ lots, lor shipment to Wellington, Auckland, and Wanganui, and several of the other ports in the North Island, the quantity remains much the same. With these towns a steady and increasing business has been established, and several of the Otago brands are now looked upon with an equal favor to any New Zealand made flour. In wheat there has not been much business done for the last few weeks. There is not the quantity offering this year that there usually is at the present part of the season. A large quantity has been shipped to England from Timaru and Oamaru, and the bulk of these shipments is of the primest wheats grown in the districts. Instead of the chief part of the parcels grown in tlie Oama,™ and Tiin*™ districts being offered to the Dunedin and Oamaru millers, they have been shipped, and this has caused a great difference to the manufacturers, especially to those of Dunedin. For prime milling sorts the value is ss. Good ordinary lots and parcels from the Clutha district may be had at 4s 9d. Fowl wheat is scarce. For oatmeal the inquiry is not over brisk. There is a fair trade demand being supplied, but for parcels of any size purchasers are found ■with difficulty. The value is L 22 per ton, and should eats continue firm, it is probable that the price will be advanced to E24. Oats have been rather brisker for the last two days. The wants from the North have been heavier, and any that are held in town, and that are ready for immediate shipment, command from 4s 3d to 4s 6d per bushel f.o.b. The quotation for trade parcels may be given at 4s to 4s 2d. Barley has became dull. The brewers appear to be well stocked with malting lots, and for damaged parcels the price is too high to induce a large gale. Pearl barley, L 33. Potatoes have been delivered in full supply, and the market is easier. For prime samples L 3 can be got. Bran is getting low in stock, and L 3 5s is the selling {irice for trade orders. Pollard, L 5, firm. Barey dust, L 4 10s. Hay, L 3 ss. Straw, L2 ss. Chaff, L3los.
