The amount ’of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house oa for tlii day, was L 1,131 12s 6d.
Saturday, noon. Without much briskness being manifested, business to a fair extent has gone forward during the past week, and although cartage has been scarce and high, there has been a good upcountry demand and a considerable amount of supplies forwarded in all directions. The grain and breadstuffs market has witnessed but light operations. Wheats have come forward in moderate supply, and holders of good lots are again asking ss. It can hardly, however, be said that buyers have conceded the figure. Barley continues scarce, and present high quotations (7s 6d) have not brought forward any parcels of magnitude. Oats continue to improve in price; current sales have been at from 3s 6d to 3s 9d, and probably the quotations for the coming week will bo in excess of the latter figure. Flour remains at Lll 10s to Ll2, but will probably be quoted a little higher directly. For oatmeal there is a good inquiry at L2O. Bran is worth 60s, and pollard 100s. In provisions good northern shipments find ready saiie. Quotations are —Bacon and hams, 9d to lOd ; cheese, to 9d; butter, 9sd to lOd—holders anticipating better rates. In the general market prices are in nearly all cases well sustained. Sugars are in good demand. The cargo of the Hadda is advertised to be offered by auction on the 27th. The shipment is but a light one, and In the face of present advices will probably bring very full rates. Teas have been rather quiet, and tho sales transpiring not of any moment. Spirits continue to move a little better. Hennessy’s brandy is quoted at 7s 6d to 7s 9d, and case of the same brand at 28s 6d. Holders of whiskeys are asking an advance upon late prices, but we have not heard that it has been fully responded to, though a considerable parcel of cases and quarters of a favorite brand changed hands at a slight improvement upon recent low figures. Although the weather is at present interfering with building operations of all kinds, a brisk demand for all kinds of materials is reported, rates •railing high. First brands of English galvanised Iron ar<e quoted at L4l, at which rate sales ; stocks are reported light. Fencing wires have been placed at an improvement of 10s per ton, #nd holders are now asking for Nos. 6, 7, and 8 respectively L 27 10s, L2B 10s, and L 29 10s. In brewing materials there is not much to be noted Stocks of hops are ample, and brewers fsneraQy supplied, a few owever, at 9d to lOd. Malt is quiet, a few f-ATiVa of English moving at 13s 6d. Linseed <oils are noted as firm at last quotations, with scanty stocks. Kerosene is worth 2s_ 4d and •2s 5d in bond, moderate parcels moving. In hemp goods next to nothing doing. Oilmen’s stores have been in good request at full rates. The Naomi, from Liverpool, brings some seasonable additions to stocks, but we hear is principally laden with railway requisites. > —■——————■—■— mmtmm —— mm ws
