The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was L6BO 18a 6d.
Messrs Driver, Stewart, and Co. report for the week ending May 21 Stock.— Fat Cattle: About 80 head of fat cattle were yarded at the weekly sale, the greater portion being of medium quality. Prices realised ranged from L 5 to L 7 2s 6d, scarcely equal to an average of 21s per lOOlbs, A few prime pens, however, brought about 22s 6d to 23s per lOOlbs. Of the above we sold 30 head, and about 20 head were turned out. We also sold at Mosgiel, yesterday, 75 head, and have placed 200 head at L 5 15s, delivered on station. Fat Sheep: 425 very medium quality merino wethers were penned at the weekly sale, and brought from 7u 9d to Bs, We have sold privately 1,000 merino wethers delivered on station at 10s; and 500 cross-breds at 15s. We quote prime mutton at 2sd per lb. Store Cattle ;We yesterday sold, at Mosgiel, over 200 head first-class stores at from L 3 5s to L 4 17s 6d for steers, and L2los to L 3 5s for heifers. Store Sheep : There is still a good demand for every description of young stores, particularly cross-breds, which are difficult to obtain. We quote cross-bred wethers at lls to 12s 6d; do ewes in lamb, at 15s to 17s 6d. Young merino ewes and wethers 7s to 8s; full-mouthed do, 4s to 6s. We have placed 1,500 merinos at current rates. Wool, Ac.—We held a sale this afternoon, and catalogued about 105 bales fellmongers’ sorts and 96 bales odd lots. The competition, however, was anything but spirited, and only a few bales were disposed of as follows, viz.:— Greasy fleece, C, 1 bale, at 8d : greasy locks, C, * 1 bale, 3Jd; greasy locks, Y, 2 bales, 4^(1; greasy mixed. FH, 1 bale, B.^d; greasy fleece, FH, 1 bale, lOd; greasy locks, WB conjoined, 2 bales, 2sd; greasy cotted, Spylaw, 1 bale, handwashed, D, 1 bale, Is lid; scoured, V over EWH, 7 bales, 21d. Sheepskins.—For these the demand was more active, and fair prices were realised, ail the lots offered, with one exception, having been cleared by auction or privately as follows, viz.:—Butchers’ skins: Merino, 47 at Is 7d, 221 at Is Bd, 496 at Is lOd, 178 at 2s, 24 at 2s 3d s cross-breds, 72 at 2s 6d, 26 at 2s 7d; fnll-woolled merino skins, 18 at 4s lid. Hides •Iso were in good request, and realised from 2 Is to 27s 6d each, according to weight and condition, TftUow, none offered; demand slight,
New Zealand Hemp.— The market continues exceedingly quiet for the better sorts, there is scarcely any sale ; but medium qualities, suitable for the Australian market, are inquired for. Grain.—Wheat has experienced some improvement during the week, and prime samples have changed hands and may now be quoted at 4s 9d to ss. Barley none offering. Uats continue in request, ana have still further hardened in value, prime samples being freely saleable at 3s 9d, and for very choice lots even higher prices have been obtained.
