WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Waste Land Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present the Chief Commissioner, and Messrs Tolmie, Strode, Buttonvoith, and Clark.
Mr Mrrvyn, on behalf of Messrs J, and J. Tatnblyn, applied to the Board to cohere tp their first decision t° (jell Ipd at Roxburgh implied fof, Ipy The Board had p-cviously de l ernunecf to sefl the land, hut afterwards reversed their decision. — Granted.
Mrßegg, for the Hon. E. Campbell, applied for a rehearing of his application for land in the Maerewhenua District, He said that two Provincial Governments had agreed to sell this land. Mr Stout opposed the rehearing, on the ground that Mr Begg brought forward no new facts. After son*) discussion, it was agreed to grant a rehearing. The apnlicaftofl adjourned tor a month, a \7aar appointed to report'on the general nature of tno land, as also on its auriferous nature. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Messrs Murray, Eoherts, and Co. and MrW. J. Clarke, applied to ascertain from the Bpayd the coni templed flapdp prpcedufe i# the matter of applications for agricultural leases made under clause 103b ; secondly, to bring up the matter of cost of survey of such lands, and the question as to who should pay j thirdly, to ascertain from the Board whether, in the event of the pastoral less?ca having, at the end of the three years, made the improvements and complied with the other conditions of the said leases, they will bo allowed to come under the provisions of clause 62. It was agreed that the questions should be referred to tho Provincial Solicitor‘for his opin : on. The Ron. M. Holmes called the attention of the Board to a mistake made in surveying his run. He had put up a ring fence nearly fifteen miles long, and took the ijuryeyof » pegs as being correct the Eoad Bqapd laid off fcneir road, it was found that fiho pegs for about a mile bad been put on the wrong side pf the road, The fence was a very substantial one, and he wanted the Board to re-erect it. The Board, while concurring in the equitibilityof the case, considered it a subject for the Executive. Margaret Simpson’s application to lease a water reserve section 2, block 7, Shotovcr district, was declined. 'Jhe application of Mr T Taylor to purchase section 115, block 1, Tuapcka district, was granted. The application of Mpssrs Guthrie and Asher for a reduction 1 of their saw-mill license fee was refused.
A letter was read MrW. d. Barry rulativb to the application for a lease of a cbpper c lo;le at Moke Crcckj near Queenstown. The matter was deferred, pending survey. Mr Sanders applied to purchase 92 acres of run No. 206 a, his application to be takpn, under the Act of 1866. npt that o ,f 1872.—Graijjlqcl, pp survey be*ng completed. Mr A. p. ’Begg, for Mr Wm. Mayow, applied for a license to occupy a village reserve, block 2, Gyeenvale, ffl£ seven years, under c’ause 91. The application was refused.
Mr Doughty, for Nichol and Mackay, applied for s, saw-.m'll license for 60 acres at Waxpori Push, Ma mgatua, Application declined. The opinion of the Provincial Solicitor in the case of Herbert, Howard, and Co., concerning the not renewing of their saw-mill icense, but acting under sawyers’ licenses, was read. Fi om it, it appeared the Board had no remedy. A letter from the Secretary of the Alexandra Miners’ Association was read, In it was asked that the Board, before selling any lands in the Bald Hill Flat District, should make inquiries as to their auriferous nature. Referred to the District Land Officer.
A letter was received from the Hon. Dr Menzies, in which hq wished to be Informed on what ground tne Board suspended the Wardens for the Mokarota Hundred. It wa 1 - agreed that he should bo informed the Board had taken action under the advice of the Provincial Solicitor. Captain Mackenzie, forMrD, A. Cameron applied to purchase 137 acres 1 rood 2 pol fto make up bis pre emptivo right. Thi application was granted. The application of Mr Jas. Dougherty b purchase sections 5, 4, 87, N’o. 1 of 58 and 57, block 2, Table Hill, held under agricul tural leases, was granted. The following applications were made foi exchange of goldfields’ leases for those of tlu )tago Waste Lands Act, 1872 J. M'Kay. sections 23, 24, and 25, block 1, Mount Ben ger district; Alex. M'Gregor. sections 1 am' 2, Benger district; J. A. Main, sections*l3 26, and 55, block 1, Crookstoue ; Geo. Walker, section 1, block 5, Tuapeka cast C. Christiansen, section 18, block 4, and sec-
tion 3, block 7, Table Hill district; Wm. Muir, sections 10 and 17, block 4, Waitabuna east.
Mr Heckler applio 1 to purchase four or five chains on hush reserve adjoining sections 27 and 28, block 5, Hawkcsbury, so as to enable him to maintain a proper fence. Referred to the Ranger, to report within fourteen days. Mr ‘ lark proposed that the land in the Waipahi district advertised for sale on the 22nd May should he withdrawn, and the •’onsidrraMon of the sale of it postponed for one month. Tlra was agreed to, and the Board then adjourned.
