DEFERRED PAYMENTS FOR LAND.

Sir,—ln last night’s Star I see that Mr T. L Shepherd met the electors of the Dunstan at Dry bread, and reviewed the past session, and stated that the system of deferred payments, which he was the first to advocate in the Provincial Council, was now law, &c. Sir, I take no interest in politics here; but a sense of duty, combined with a regard to historal accuracy, constrains me to remind Mr Shepherd and his friends that I, in my place in the Otago Council some eight years ago, advocated precisely the same system of deferred payments for land, which now, after such a long lapse of time, is the law of the Jap - Y'Ht votes and proceedings for As in many other measures, so in this particular one, X had to stand alone-* not even Mr Donald Reid lending me a help* ing hand.—l am, &o.» J.
