The barque Hadda commenced discharging her sugar this morning into lighters. It is turning out in excellent order. The Storm Bird, for the Bluff, and the Maori, for Lyttelton and intermediate Ports, sail this evening. Mr Charles Bradshaw, of Port Chalmers, commenced fitting out his two whale-boats this morning, and took a large supply of provisions, which is intended to be kept at the Heads. A start will be made to-morrow in search of some fish, and, as a number have been seen along the coast, wo hope soon to hear of his securing a

prize. The Waipara wailed from Hokitika for the Haast, Big Bay, ami Martin's Bay, on Tlmrscliy night. An attempt (says the Wed (kxv4 Ti'ina) had been made to induce the Otago Government to ]>ay a portion of the subsidy for the trip ; but as they preferred to leave the Martin's Bay settlers to their fate, the < Jonnty Government paid half the subsidy—iff o—and the Bev. Mr Porter, who has his wife and familv at the Martin’s Bay settlement, was compelled, through the parsimony of the Otago Government, to pay the remainder out of his own pocket. Captain Linklater, late of the s.s. "Wanganui, we believe, is to be put in command of a barque, which it is intended shall trade between here and London, and of which report gays Mr W. H. The topsail schooner Wave, bound from Wellington to Oamarn, arrived in port yesterday, having been obliged to leave Oamarn on account of a heavy sea getting up. Signals were made for the Margaret Campbell, then in the roadstead, to leave. The Wavo left Wellington last Wednesday morning, and bad fine weather till arrival off Oamarn.

The Janet Bamsay and the Dunedin both sailed in yesterday morning with cargoes of timber from Havelock. Both vessels left together on last Wednesday, ami experienced fine weather, arriving off the Heads on Saturday night. They passed on to Dunedin, Capt. Stewart reports the schooner Spec, also timber laden, from Havelock, outside the Heads when he sailed in. The steamer Wanganui anived in Port Chalmers at mid-day yesterday, and steamed alongside the ('ity of Bombay. She Ims lately been purchased by the Messrs Houghton, of Dunedin, and is intended to run in the Northern trade. On this trip she left Wanganui at fivea.m. on Monday last, and arrived at Wellington the same day, at eight p.m. ; left the following evening at eight; called at the Kaikoras, and arrived at Lyttelton at 1>.30 the next morning ; left again at four p.m, ; called at Timaru, and left there at five p.m. on Saturday, arriving here as above. Very thick weather was experienced off the coast. We thank her steward for our Northern files.
