Nelson, April 12. Ten Nelson volunteers, in a match with Dunedin, made 325 poinrs. The Perseverance mine, Collingwood, is to be let on tribute. The Colonist denies that Mr JBaruicoat is a candidate for the Nelson suburbs. Auckland, April 10. The Kenilworth, from Samoa, brings news that the ship Alsager, guano laden, Was scuttled off Tangatataboo. Three men who were put in. irons have been, charged with scuttling her, and were brought before the Police Court and remanded. The inquest on Mr Young resulted in a vcrdict.of accidentally shot. Robert Stinson, convicted of rape on an idiot girl, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and 30 lashes. Wellington, April 10. Sent 7.50 p.m , received at midnight. The Luna leaves to-morow with a detachment of the Wellington Artillery, who attend the Canterbury Easter encampment. Capt. Mach ell is gazetted Aide-de-Camp and Private Secretary, and Mr William Fitzgerald Assistant Aide de-Camp and Secretary to the Acting-Governor. The Agent-General telegraphed to the effect that he called for tenders for two vessels ; that Shaw, Saville, and Co.’s tender was the only one; and that he agreed for Ll7 per head, for two vessels only. Messrs Shaw, Saville, and Co. offered to contract for a period at LI6 16s per head, but the AgentGeueral declined, and referred the question to the Government. The Government will telegraph the first opportunity to the AgentGeneral to discontinue all arrangements with Shaw, Saville, and Co. Reefton, April 10. Five buildings were destroyed by lire, which was caused by a bricklayer named Taylor, who was sleeping in an empty house leaving a candle burning. His body was consumed. Napier, April 10. The dwelling house of Mr Smith at Kercut was burned down. It was the finest house in the Province, and uninsured. A tender has been accepted to complete a coach road through 70 miles of bush, to Foxton. Christchurch, April 10, Sent 7.50 p.m., received midnight. At a meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Robert Keay, who was disqualified by tho Tuapeka Jockey Club for jostling Atlas off the course at the recent races there, was disqualified from running or riding a horse where the C. J.C. rules were in force.
